This paper analyzes the new heat dissipation mode of small and medium power LEDs - the potential advantages of vertical heat dissipation. Compared with the traditional heat dissipation mode-horizontal heat dissipation, the new vertical heat-dissipating LED has the advantages of high brightness, fast heat dissipation, low light attenuation and high stability. In this paper, the structure, heat dissipation mode, light decay and color coordinate drift of different heat dissipation mode LEDs are analyzed and compared, and thermal characteristics simulation and experimental test analysis are carried out. From the aspects of heat dissipation, reliability, cost and volume, the photoelectric thermal characteristics of LED based on vertical heat dissipation structure are studied. It is pointed out that the low power LED in vertical heat dissipation structure is the development trend of current application of illumination source.
