The Indian LED market is expected to reach an average annual growth rate of 54% by 2014. The progress of lighting technology will be demonstrated in efficacy and life within a period of time. But in terms of science and technology alone, these advances are unpredictable. These advances depend on the maturity of technology and the market prospects brought about by these increasingly mature technologies. There are forecasts that LED will achieve 57% market penetration in 2021. Official procurement by the government and large-scale procurement by the state-run sector will be the main driving force.

The efficacy of LED lamps will double within the next 20 years. As of 2031, 80% of the lighting market will be occupied by LED. Currently, market penetration relies mainly on the economics of trading. However, with the increase in consumer income levels, the implementation of various technology standards, and consumer confidence in the industry, the LED market itself will play a role in driving market penetration.
