These products launched at the Baidu World Conference in Beijing are driven by the DuerOS system, which is Baidu's conversational artificial intelligence technology. The system is similar to virtual assistants such as Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant and Microsoft's Cortana. The DuerOS system enables the product to complete tasks in response to other voice commands, such as querying information, playing music, and calling a car. The display can be separated from the speaker, and can remotely control all smart home devices compatible with the Raven.
Lu Cheng, general manager of Baidu's intelligent hardware division and founder of Raven Technology, said that the idea behind Raven H is to achieve as seamless human-computer interaction as possible. He also said, "Its adjustable design allows users to move freely at home or at work, while maintaining a connection with the Raven H system and personal life." Raven H will face fierce competition with the smart home market dominating Amazon.
Baidu also launched the Raven R robot, which is a multi-joint robotic arm that can move and express emotions according to user instructions. The Raven Q robot is still under development and will eventually include multiple technologies such as simultaneous localization and mapping, computer vision, speech recognition and natural language processing.
The Raven H speaker is priced at 1,699 yuan and will be on sale in December. Baidu did not disclose the price and parameter details of the latter two new products. Lu Cheng told the audience that “every new Raven product is combined with Baidu’s latest artificial intelligence technology, including face recognition, computer vision and even Apollo autonomous driving technology.†Lu Cheng also said, "These smart speakers and artificial intelligence home robots may sound like only a small step in the long history of technology, but they can help people improve their daily lives and give them experiences that are only available in sci-fi blockbusters."
