NB-IoT is a communication standard being developed by the mobile communication industry group "3GPP". Data can be exchanged in a range of several kilometers (up to about 20km) using a transceiver module that can be embedded in various small sensors and devices and only has a fingertip size. The bandwidth used is approximately 200 kHz, which is narrower than current LTE and the like, and various frequency bands such as a guard band of LTE and a band of GSM can be utilized. Huawei will use 3GPP as a new type of service (LPWA (low power wide area)) using low-power long-distance wireless modules, and strive to make it an industry standard.

NB-IoT is a technology jointly proposed by Huawei and Vodafone in the first half of 2014. 3GPP has officially discussed the standardization of this technology since September 2015, and is expected to establish standards in June 2016. Huawei demonstrated the intelligent tracking system using NB-IoT at the event venue. One of the envisaged uses is the pet position management. The NB-IoT trial system is worn on the neck of the puppy's ornaments on the spot, and the GPS-detected positioning information is presented through the display screen of the venue. The transmission distance can reach several kilometers to 20km. The battery can be replaced several times in a few years by reducing the frequency of wirelessly transmitting location information. In addition, Huawei also demonstrated the use of the system to achieve bicycle anti-theft, tire pressure monitoring, and suitcase location management.
Huawei said at the event that in addition to Vodafone, T-Mobile and China Unicom also joined the NB-IoT camp. The company said, "IoT transmission methods should be integrated into one. This will help reduce the cost of components such as modules." In the future, it will promote the use of NB-IoT by other companies in various industries.
