Beijing, China, February 23, 2016 - Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a distributor of global engineers, launches the latest mbed innovations under the group's trading brand RS Components (RS), which fully demonstrates project connectivity and low power. And security concerns and enrich its ARM® mbedTM product line. The mbed OS was born to address the major IoT development challenges, and the Freescale Freedom-K64F platform is one of the industry's first development boards to seamlessly support mbed OS.
Currently, mbed OS is available for free download at mbed.com/technology/os, providing an effective tool for engineers to deal with the complexity of IoT scale development. Mbed OS supports IoT developers to learn from the platform principles that have been successfully used in Web 2.0 and smartphone application development. These features include a pre-integrated secure IP that supports the connection and interface of major standards such as Bluetooth® Smart, Wi-Fi, Thread low-power wireless mesh networks, 6LowPAN and GSM. In addition, enhancements to the mbed IoT device platform and support for energy-efficient drives can help developers run longer under limited energy resources such as coin cells.
RS's now available Freescale Freedom-K64F platform is one of the first development boards to incorporate mbed OS development into the engineer's test bench. The mbed OS and mbed Thread network stacks are ideal for smart home applications and run on the onboard KineTIs K64F microcontroller. The board also includes a MEMS accelerometer and magnetometer with a fully integrated electronic compass, microSD card slot and Ethernet port. The form factor is also compatible with the Arduino R3 board, making it easy to install a variety of expansion boards to expand features such as 2.4GHz radio, RFID or cellular connectivity. RS will also continue to increase support for mbed OS development.
