Metro's main producers and distributors announced today that they are participating in the MetroTag Group's “TagItEasy†simple cargo label testing program. The pilot program is part of Metro's ongoing "Asian Advanced Logistics" ("ALA") program. Through the ALA program, Metro works with suppliers in Asia to promote the use of RFID (radio frequency technology) in the logistics process in Asia to streamline operations. The "TagItEasy" pilot program allows RFID tags to be used in the delivery of goods from Hong Kong to Germany.
Metro is the first to introduce RFID into its supply chain and is hailed as a pioneer in the adoption of RFID in the retail industry. Through an innovative RFID pilot program, Metro's suppliers in Asia will participate in RFID-led supply chain management.
The company asked suppliers in Asia to add RFID tags to all consumer goods, including toys, office supplies and even garments, but because most of the suppliers have limited production facilities, they are printing RFID tags, and How to use RFID tags on transport packaging requires assistance from other manufacturers. As a result, Metro has partnered with Checkpoint Systems to create an online platform where suppliers can order RFID tags through the platform. Once the checkpoint system receives the order, it will send the label directly to the supplier.
At the same time, Metro hopes to improve logistics efficiency and transparency through RFID pilot program, and to understand freight data more accurately and timely, which helps Metro manage different goods from different places, reduce storage costs and solve the shortage problem at the retail level.
At present, the Metro Group uses the second generation of ultra-high-frequency electronic coded tags to meet the requirements of ultra-high RF in various regions. China is 917MHz~922MHz, Hong Kong is 920MHz~925MHz, while Europe is 865.6MHz~867.6MHz. On the RFID tag provided by Checkpoint, the shipping container serial number barcode is stored. From the Hong Kong to Enna in the supply chain, readers are installed in different places to read the relevant information on the label. Metro can receive an electronic delivery note showing the contents of the container before the goods arrive, and the supplier can also obtain a detailed delivery certificate to make the operation more convenient.
According to the reporter, the pilot project will last for three months. If the plan is successful, Metro will extend the program to other Asian suppliers.
