New ultra-narrow tunable filter

Yenista Optics, a provider of optical test instrumentation in France, introduced a manual tunable filter XTM-50 product. The 6.25GHz (50pm) bandwidth adjustment capability of this product sets new standards for diffraction grating devices.

With the development of 100G systems, ultra-narrow bandwidth tunable filters have more applications. The XTM-50's adjustment range is from 1450nm to 1650nm, and the adjustment amount is from 50pm to 800pm. It has outstanding advantages such as low insertion loss and small distortion. Its bandwidth flatness is 0.2dB, Steep edge 550dB/nm. Yenista pointed out that new transmission technologies related to 100G like OFDM are being studied extensively. Traditional Gaussian or semi-flat filters do not support applications like the incorporation of 4 optical signals into a 50 GHz filter. Yenista's new tunable filter provides new possibilities for new modulation methods, high bit rate transmission, and cascaded ROADM.

In addition to the XTM-50, Yenista offers a complete line of tunable filters, including the Xtract WSA-160 and WSM-160. Yenista will present these products at the ECOC2010 held in September.
