Citizens in Guangzhou can place orders through the app or mini-program to experience autonomous taxis at a starting price of RMB 12.
The report quoted Zhang Li, COO of WeRide.ai, a self-driving travel technology company, that the trial-run self-driving taxi is equipped with 2 lidars, 3 professional cameras, and 1 millimeter-wave radar. The staff of Guangzhou Public Transport Group said that each self-driving taxi of the company will have 1 to 2 professional safety officers with taxi operation service qualification certificates.
Many technology companies and auto companies are conducting research and development of autonomous driving technology. Auto companies such as Ford and BMW have stated that they plan to mass-produce L3, L4 or L5 autonomous electric vehicles around 2020.
