US report predicts LED prices are expected to fall to $11.06 by 2020

Higher prices have always been the roadblocks that LED manufacturers want to win in the fierce competition. However, a newly released industry report in the United States recently predicts that shifting the focus from packaging efficiency to technological innovation will help reduce the cost of LEDs in the next eight and a half years.

According to research by Lux Research, the focus is now shifting from packaging to peripheral systems. Experts predict that in 2020, innovations in the areas of thermal management, drives and optical components will help reduce the price of LED lights to $11.06. In order to draw conclusions, the researchers studied the main cost factors of LED lamps with the same power as 60-watt incandescent lamps, and also studied the available technologies to speed up cost reduction.

Researchers have found that active thermal management technologies such as Nuventix's SynJet are currently being developed to reduce the cost of aluminum-based solutions. Innovations in more efficient dim drives can attract new customers and save 1% in cost. The fabrication of new secondary optics improves beam shape and collects light emitted by the primary optics, which further reduces the total cost of LEDs by 5%.
