According to the report, global AR/VR product and service spending will increase from 11.4 billion U.S. dollars this year to 215 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 113.2%.
Among them, the United States has the highest AR/VR spending and will reach US$3.2 billion this year. The Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan) will follow closely, spending will reach 3 billion U.S. dollars. In Western Europe, spending will reach 2 billion U.S. dollars. In the next two years, the AR/VR spending in the Asia-Pacific region will surpass that of the United States, but in 2020, the United States will return to the top.
This year, the consumer sector will become the largest source of AR/VR revenue. In the United States and Western Europe, the second largest source is discrete manufacturing and process manufacturing. In the Asia-Pacific region, the second largest source is the retail and education industry.
The report also stated that this year and next year, the spending of VR systems including heads-up, software, consulting services, and system integration services will be greater than AR-related expenses. After 2018, AR spending will increase significantly. (Li Ming)
